Carbon monoxide is a dangerous gas produced when heating systems are not working correctly. You can't smell, taste or see carbon monoxide. That makes it very dangerous. Carbon monoxide can build up inside a house because of incomplete combustion and cause severe sickness and even death.

Special Program: Free CO Alarms Given Away at Chicago Firehouses

First Alert will provide free carbon monoxide alarms to 400 Chicago households in November through a special partnership between Peoples Gas and the Chicago Fire Department.

The CO alarms will be distributed at four fire stations (100 each), in low to moderate income neighborhoods, as part of an effort to increase home safety during the heating season and raise awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide. The alarms will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following dates:
