Each month, Peoples Gas calculates
your natural gas usage by reading your meter. The reading can be taken in several
different ways:
Actual Reading: Most Peoples Gas
customers have a SureRead device installed on their meters. The reading is
transmitted via radio to a Peoples Gas
van, without us having to enter your home.
Estimated Reading: Occasionally, we are unable to access and read your
meter. When this occurs, your bill is estimated based on the amount of gas used
in previous months and weather conditions during the billing period. Any
difference between the estimated bill and the next actual reading will be
adjusted.
Your estimated annual therm use is calculated based on your natural gas use during
the calendar year and it assumes normal weather. Your actual use will vary depending
on the weather and your usage patterns.
