Credit Reporting Policy

Credit Reporting Policy

Peoples Gas encourages customers to pay their natural gas bills in full and on time, to maintain a good credit rating and avoid having service disconnected.

How Credit Reporting Works

On a regular basis, every Peoples Gas customer's payment record is reported to credit agencies (Equifax and TransUnion). This results in prompt payment by more of our customers. And, in turn, it protects our reliable customers from increasing costs associated with nonpayment by others.

Bills more than 60 days past due may adversely affect a customer's credit rating. Late-paying customers can improve their credit rating by consistently paying their gas bills by the due date. Over time, with consistent, timely payments, negative reports will drop off of a customer's credit report.

If you are facing financial difficulty, Peoples Gas can help you before your credit rating is affected. Contact us to make payment arrangements or find out about financial assistance.
