Who is responsible for the maintenance and repair of gas piping
from the meter to the appliances inside the home?
While Peoples Gas always
responds to gas emergencies, any problem with piping from the meter to
the appliances inside the house must be repaired at the homeowner's
expense.
If you do not have Pipeline Protection Program and a gas leak is detected
inside your home, we will make your home safe by completing the repairs at
the standard hourly rates or turn off the gas so you can arrange for the
repair by a private contractor.
In the event of a problem, whether it's with the gas line itself
or with any of the hookups to your gas appliances, a highly trained
Peoples Gas service technician will repair the problem at no charge. Most
repairs are made the same day.
The program is available to homeowners who live in a structure with three
or fewer individual dwelling units. In addition, your gas bill payments must
be current.
Any work performed under your service agreement is guaranteed against
defects in material or workmanship for 30 days from the date the service was
performed.
The plan does not cover gas pipes that are not exposed, or that
are larger than 1/14; inches in diameter. It does not cover repairs to
actual appliances, repairs to underground piping, piping outside of the
primary location or outbuildings not attached to the primary location,
piping located in crawl spaces, piping facilities used for commercial
purposes or mobile homes, and piping located in the common areas of
multi-unit buildings. See the Terms and Conditions
for a complete list of exclusions.
If you move, you have the option of continuing the plan at your
new address. Your new location must be within our service territory
and meet the dwelling requirements for participation.
